Go West! - Sunday 29th June 2003
Or south, which is what I’ve done. Decided to go to Taxco with Patrick and Dave, and also met up with a girl called Sian whilst on the bus. It was quite a relief to get out of Mexico City! Whilst the hostel there was great for meeting people, the city itself wasn’t my favourite - roads upon roads of bustling monotony.
Taxco felt like a Cornish town, but without the beach. We took a ride on the cable car to the mountain around it in search of a picturesque view, but unfortunately we couldn’t quite find it. Apparently - and I really wouldn’t know because I’m about as good at shopping as Alan Partridge is at making friends - the silver in Taxco was dirt cheap. Like $4 for something that would cost $40 back home. Needless to say I was a stingey git and didn’t buy a thing for anyone.
No tour of Mexico’s complete without visiting Acapulco… simply because you can’t really get to the nice places without getting a bus there first. I did my best to avoid it, but it actually doesn’t seem that bad. And the weather here is bloody hot! I was a bit shocked back in Mexico City at how cold it was compared to what I was expecting, but Acapulco definitely meets my expectations!
Umm… yeah, so I’ll spend a night here, then find some nice secluded little beach somewhere and just chill out for a while whilst reading Trance State by John Case and some Paulo Cuelho book I’ve got with me. Nice.
Pyramid Funkiness - Friday 27th June 2003
Went to those funky pyramids today on a day trip excursion in a minibus. Met two other guys - Dave and Patrick which was all good. Did some kinda boring sight seeing but climbing the pyramids made up for that. Day started off nowhere near as hot as I thought it would be, but by about midday the sun was beaming down pretty strong and I soon managed to get a little burnt! Ronan’s buggered off to meet his girlfriend down south, and the other guys will probably follow a similar route. I may join them but i think i’d prefer to go north first and hopefully meet up with Marcela. And after that, hit the beaches and just lie in a hammock for weeks reading. Yeah!
Hola! Je suis en Mexico!!! - Thursday 26th June 2003
Yes, I know thats not Spanish, but Ive been on an Air France flight so Im in a bit of a muddle between my English, French and Spanish at the moment. And in case your French aint to hot, Im in Mexico as we speak, booked into a nice youth hostel international doo-dah called Hostelas Cathedral in the heart of Mexico City. Which is, btw, extremely big - remembering back to when I came into Delhi, this ones even bigger! Ive met quite a few people already and theres a good atmostphere to this place.
Apparently its 9pm at the moment. But of course my body thinks its about 4am. Add to that the fact that I had four hours sleep last night and didnt sleep at two nights before that, and you figure that Im feeling a little on the tired side. So after sending out a few emails and then getting some food, i expect ill be going straight to bed… or perhaps not.
Plan for tomorrow is to go to the pyramids of Teotihuacan and then probably stay in Mexico City for a couple of days and do a couple of other day trips before probably going kinda northwards for a week or so.
?Adios!
Photos for all! - Tuesday 24th June 2003
Just a quick note to say to all uni friends and anyone else snooping around here that hundreds of my most recent photos, mainly from uni, are now up. Go look at them now! Sorry that they’re not named particularly cunningly. Ooooohhh…. Mexico tomorrow (see below)!!!
Ooooooh… the excitement! I’m packing my bag ready for a couple of months in Mexico starting tomorrow! My plane leaves Heathrow at 10.30 tomorrow morning heading for Paris, where I change for Mexico City. Its going to be ’soooo much fun!’. Once in Mexico City, hopefully I won’t be conned into buying a package holiday ticket like I did before in India, but instead will have a few more brain cells to guide me to a cheap little youth hostel somewhere. And from there… nobody knows! I’m gonna’ take it as it comes.
